This Sunday's service began with the Psalm 133, the Gloria Patri and the hymn of praise was "Crown Him With many Crowns." Many words of joy and testimony were given by our congregation. A special presentation was made to Joanne Young by the United Methodist Women for her many hours of service to the church. Sara sang a special musical arrangement of "Shall We Gather By the River."
The theme of today's sermon was Alive in Christ. Pastor Robbie reminded us that Christ's wounds were still visible after the resurrection.
Joh 20:1
The first day of the week cometh Mary Magdalene early, when it was yet dark, unto the sepulchre, and seeth the stone taken away from the sepulchre.
Joh 20:2
Then she runneth, and cometh to Simon Peter, and to the other disciple, whom Jesus loved, and saith unto them, They have taken away the Lord out of the sepulchre, and we know not where they have laid him.
Joh 20:3
Peter therefore went forth, and that other disciple, and came to the sepulchre.
Joh 20:4
So they ran both together: and the other disciple did outrun Peter, and came first to the sepulchre.
Joh 20:5
And he stooping down, and looking in, saw the linen clothes lying; yet went he not in.
Joh 20:6
Then cometh Simon Peter following him, and went into the sepulchre, and seeth the linen clothes lie,
Joh 20:7
And the napkin, that was about his head, not lying with the linen clothes, but wrapped together in a place by itself.
Joh 20:8
Then went in also that other disciple, which came first to the sepulchre, and he saw, and believed.
Joh 20:9
For as yet they knew not the scripture, that he must rise again from the dead.
Joh 20:10
Then the disciples went away again unto their own home.
Joh 20:11
But Mary stood without at the sepulchre weeping: and as she wept, she stooped down, and looked into the sepulchre,
Joh 20:12
And seeth two angels in white sitting, the one at the head, and the other at the feet, where the body of Jesus had lain.
Joh 20:13
And they say unto her, Woman, why weepest thou? She saith unto them, Because they have taken away my Lord, and I know not where they have laid him.
Joh 20:14
And when she had thus said, she turned herself back, and saw Jesus standing, and knew not that it was Jesus.
Joh 20:15
Jesus saith unto her, Woman, why weepest thou? whom seekest thou? She, supposing him to be the gardener, saith unto him, Sir, if thou have borne him hence, tell me where thou hast laid him, and I will take him away.
Joh 20:16
Jesus saith unto her, Mary. She turned herself, and saith unto him, Rabboni; which is to say, Master.
Joh 20:17
Jesus saith unto her, Touch me not; for I am not yet ascended to my Father: but go to my brethren, and say unto them, I ascend unto my Father, and your Father; and to my God, and your God.
Pastor Robbie said sometimes we forget who we are. When we look in the mirror, what do we see but our perception of ourselves? We should see someone who has been reborn through the sacrifice of Jesus. All too often people judge themselves by what others think, or by their possessions -- instead of realizing their self-worth comes from being a child of God.
Joh 1:11
He came unto his own, and his own received him not.
Joh 1:12
But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name:
Joh 1:13
Which were born, not of blood, nor of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of man, but of God.
Ro 8:14
For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, they are the sons of God.
Ro 8:15
For ye have not received the spirit of bondage again to fear; but ye have received the Spirit of adoption, whereby we cry, Abba, Father.
Ro 8:16
The Spirit itself beareth witness with our spirit, that we are the children of God:
Ro 8:17
And if children, then heirs; heirs of God, and joint-heirs with Christ; if so be that we suffer with him, that we may be also glorified together.
Ge 1:26
And God said, Let us make man in our image, after our likeness: and let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over the cattle, and over all the earth, and over every creeping thing that creepeth upon the earth.
Ge 1:27
So God created man in his own image, in the image of God created he him; male and female created he them.
Jas 1:21
Wherefore lay apart all filthiness and superfluity of naughtiness, and receive with meekness the engrafted word, which is able to save your souls.
Jas 1:22
But be ye doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving your own selves.
Jas 1:23
For if any be a hearer of the word, and not a doer, he is like unto a man beholding his natural face in a glass:
Jas 1:24
For he beholdeth himself, and goeth his way, and straightway forgetteth what manner of man he was.
Pastor Robbie said we need to remember who we are - the child of our Father.
Eph 5:27
That he might present it to himself a glorious church, not having spot, or wrinkle, or any such thing; but that it should be holy and without blemish.
The closing hymn was "And Are We Yet Alive."
